Module 2, Session 2: MCA and Best Interests
Please Note: This workshop is repeated 26th and 27th May β you only need to attend the session once.
This practical workshop provides a clear introduction to the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and its application in everyday practice. It supports practitioners to understand when and how to assess capacity, and how to make lawful, defensible best interest decisions that respect individual rights while safeguarding wellbeing.
The session explores different types of decisions, the principles that underpin the MCA, and the importance of supporting autonomy, consultation, and advocacy. Through discussion and applied examples, participants will build confidence in using bestβinterest frameworks and understanding how the MCA applies in complex or fluctuating capacity situations across health and social care settings.
